Neighborhood
The territory of Rosemont was formerly part of the Côte-de-la-Visitation (current route of rue Rosemont, formerly called petite côte), this space was for a long time a vast agricultural territory crossed by Chemin Papineau. It was not until the arrival of Mr. Dandurant to see the city develop. The latter was a great real estate investor as much a visionary as a speculator who acquired, among other things, the Crawford farm via Rosemont Land Cie. He gave this name after that of his mother: Rose and founded the town of the same name in 1905. Being the largest landowner in the new town, he separated into small lots to be built which he sold very quickly at prices. attractive to Montreal's emerging middle class. The rue Masson then develops, the Old-Rosemont comes to life. The promises were numerous: pipelines, sewerage construction, parks ... All achievements that the young town of Rosemont could never afford. The city was integrated into the city of Montreal in 1910 due to its too many debts. The developers had made their money and left the burden on the new residents. The young town of Rosemont had as its industrial center the Angus factories, one of the largest factories in Canada, owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway. Today, the Rosemont-Petite-patrie borough is one of the largest in the city of Montreal with its 120 square km. It comes in second place in terms of the number of residents in its territory.
